چکیده

The acoustic radiation from isotropic turbulence is computed numerically. A hybrid direct numerical simulation approach which combines direct numerical simulation (DNS) of the turbulent ow with the Lighthill acoustic analogy is utilized. It is demonstrated that the hybrid DNS method is a feasible approach to the computation of sound generated by turbulent ows. The acoustic e ciency in the simulation of isotropic turbulence appears to be substantially less than that in subsonic jet experiments. The dominant frequency of the computed acoustic pressure is found to be somewhat larger than the dominant frequency of the energy-containing scales of motion. The acoustic power in the simulations is proportional to M t where is the turbulent dissipation rate and Mt is the turbulent Mach number. This is in agreement with the analytical result of Proudman (1952), but the constant of proportionality is smaller than the analytical result. Two di erent methods of computing the acoustic power from the DNS data bases yielded consistent results. This research was supported by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration under NASA Contract No. NAS1-19480 while the authors were in residence at the Institute for Computer Applications in Science and Engineering (ICASE), NASA Langley Research Center, Hampton, VA 24681.

The Effects of Different SDE Calculus on Dynamics of Nano-Aerosols Motion in Two Phase Flow Systems

Langevin equation for a nano-particle suspended in a laminar fluid flow was analytically studied. The Brownian motion generated from molecular bombardment was taken as a Wiener stochastic process and approximated by a Gaussian white noise. Euler-Maruyama method was used to solve the Langevin equation numerically. The accuracy of Brownian simulation was checked by performing a series of simulati...

Numerical Simulation and Estimation of the Transvers Macrodispersivity Coefficient of Aqueous Phase (Miscible) Contaminants of Salt Water in a Heterogeneous and Homogeneous Porous Media

Deterioration of groundwater resources in coastal regions due to the progression of saline water in aquifers in these regions is currently one of the important issues in providing water needs in these areas. In coastal regions, saline water enters the aquifer from below in shape of wedge. Due to the difference in the density between fresh and salty water, an interface zone forms between two flu...

Semi-classical Noise Treatment of Generated Supercontinuum Light by a Finite Energy Airy Pulse

In this paper, a stochastic term is added to the classical generalized nonlinear Schrödinger Equation to describe the noise generated when light pulses propagate in a fiber. It has been shown that the generated supercontinuum light source fluctuates up to 50% of its output temporal intensity profile due to noises of different sources. The simulation method devised has been applied to the propag...

A Numerical Study on the Aeroacoustic Radiation from a Finite Length Rotating Cylinder

Rotating cylinders have wide applications in different areas, especially the aerodynamic area. However, the acoustic behaviors of these components have not been widely studied. The generating noise from a spinning cylinder is mainly due to the detached vortices from the leeward of the body. In this study, the large eddy simulation technique is used to simulate the flow field over a three-dimens...

Modeling Flexibility Effects in Robotic Arms Via the Modified 4x4 D-H Homogeneous Transformation

This paper presents a method for the kinematical modeling of robot manipulator arms with flexible members. Development of such techniques are important for the improvement of robotic arms precision performance and their mechanical design. The approach employs the (4X4) Denavit-Hartenberg homogeneous transformations to describe the kinematics of light weight flexible manipulator arms. The method...
